You don't quite sense this in the early hours, when you're picking up plentiful ears of corn and fending off wild dogs with a stick.
Defender has a surprisingly robust survival game buried beneath its adventure and RPG trappings. My previous entries on the game under-emphasized some of the more important elements of gameplay, partly because it's not a style of game that I usually encounter, and partly because those elements don't become fully revealed until later.
